Zebra Rider
This painting is all about patterns. I have always been fascinated by herds of zebra. The thought that each individual zebra’s stripe pattern is unique, like our fingerprints, gives a special emphasis to any artistic rendition that departs from the photographic, as this one does. This particular zebra is invented, just as one might invent a character in fiction, and I gave her a rider wearing a garment that I myself designed as homage to the authentic (and popular) kente cloth from Ghana.
