Olmstead’s Island, Crown of Rocks
This is what you would see looking downstream if you stood on the bridge between the C&O Canal towpath and Oldmstead’s Island proper. It is almost embarrassing to admit that the shape the water makes was not immediately apparent to me as I painted and only appeared much later as I was finishing the painting. When I pointed it out to a friend, she said, “I wish you had not told me. I liked it more before!” I liked it “before” too! And I still like it. What do you think? Isn’t it a strange phenomenon, what the mind will do behind our backs?
