Los Brazos Rooftop and Patio
I painted this back-side view of the country house my son designed, as seen from a spot up the mountain a little ways. I painted it en plein air, which proved a challenge when the wind kicked up and noxious no-see’ums began buzzing around and biting. It was a trick balancing the big canvas without an easel. Nevertheless, while I was at it, I was identifying with the British artist Dora Carrington of Bloomsbury fame, who must have felt what I was feeling, purposely distorting the buildings and grounds and distant landforms while celebrating the places she loved so much.
