Lee River Scene (Traditional)
When I visited China in 2005, I traveled up the Lee River on a steamer. Along the way were scattered small villages like the one depicted here. Since I had studied traditional brush painting with Helen Sze in Washington, D.C., I tried capturing the feeling of that landscape in this traditional style, using black sumi ink and color washes. It is one of my happiest Chinese brush paintings because it represents an authentic contemporary moment in a time-honored style.
