Cabbage, Onion, Mushrooms
Once I discovered the Italian Baroque painter Giovanna Garzoni (1600-1670), it was hard not to try to follow for a little while in her footsteps and do lots and lots of small still life paintings. Hers were done with watercolors and gouache, mostly on real parchment, and are exquisite. She had a royal following all over Europe, which represented amazing success for a female artist in those days. So few achieved their painting ambitions! My depictions of still life are a bit more modern, coming as they do nearly half a millenium later.
