Black Rocking Chair, Charleston
Charleston porches are the places to spend leisure time. One can catch the breezes from the ocean there. If there’s a view of the street, one can keep tabs on the comings and goings of your neighbors and the tourists walking around. The black rocking chair sat on my brother’s back-of-the-house porch, a private retreat from the busy brouhaha of Broad Street, right downtown. I sketched a whole pad-full of studies of Charleston’s gardens, porches, and streetscapes. What a picturesque city!
